Happy Fall!

Hello and welcome back to this wonderful art room, sparkling clean and fully stocked with new supplies, and a new teacher!  I'm excited to start the new year together, getting to know this (new to me) room and each of you at TGS.  I know this will be a space for great exploration, play, and creativity.

We'll start this year's Global Education Theme focused on Ecuador with a look at the relationship of environment to art-making of the Shuar people of the Amazon, connecting that to our own mission here, imagining the figure of Quetzlcoatl in sculptural forms, creating traditional instruments from several cultures, working with Liz to build altars in celebration of Day of the Dead/Dia de los Difuntos, and many other Ecuador-related projects throughout the year.

Continuing the theme of integrated learning, many of our projects will work in tandem with classroom teachers to allow tactile engagement to support learning through art.  This fall, Upper-Schoolers will have an opportunity to propose designs for a new mural at the student entrance of the Lower School, and all students will participate in painting the chosen design.  I hope to foster multi-grade collaboration in the visual arts whenever possible, and look forward to collaborating with parents as well as our greater community!

You can read more about me in my TGS bio and I encourage you to get in touch with any questions, ideas connections, suggestions, or just to say hello by popping in or at hannah@thegrammarschool.org. I'll update this page with weekly student work, project plans, class highlights, field trips, homework, and occasional articles, so please visit frequently.  I'm looking forward to a great year in art and beyond!
