Large Expressive Self Portraits

Seventh graders are nearly done with their large acrylic self-portraits. We looked at the work of Chuck Close and used a grid technique to enlarge photographs. Students chose expressive colors but with the same value as the original photograph. It is a little weird to walk into a room where everyone is 3x their normal size.

7th and 8th Grade Art Electives Have Been Chosen

Seventh and eighth graders have narrowed down their winter art electives to four classes. We started with a list of about 40 ideas and voted to whittle them down. The four classes will be Filmmaking, Black and White Photography, Graffiti Art, and Digital Color Photography. I am working on hiring the instructors. This is the third year of art electives and the first fully funded by The Grammar School. The classes will be on six consecutive Fridays starting January 6th. Students are quite excited.
